Mary Walsh’s Canada, It’s Complicated: A Brand New Satiric Revue from Canada’s Leading Comedians, Writers, and Performers.
Canada, It’s Complicated is a brand new comedy production by Mary Walsh (Gemini Award-winner and nominee for two Genies and a 2017 Canadian Screen Award. Among her many awards and doctorates, she is the recipient of the Order of Canada and the Governor General’s Lifetime Achievement Award in the Performing Arts.) featuring our country’s freshest comedic talent. Canada, It’s Complicated combines satirical sketches and songs that examine the joys, foibles, tragedies and triumphs of Canada as it is today – and where it will be in the future.
Canada, It’s Complicated is a stellar collaboration of leading Canadian comedians, musicians and playwrights including: Mary Walsh, Derek Seguin (2015 Sirius Top Comic); Quantum Tangle (2017 Juno award-winning music duo from Yellowknife, NWT); Marie Clements (award-winning Métis playwright, performer, director, producer, screenwriter, BC), and Mike Allison (award-winning lead writer for This Hour has 22 Minutes, Nova Scotia). Contributing writers include Mary-Colin Chisholm (actor, writer and director, Halifax); Thomas King (Governor General Award Winner, novelist and creator of CBC Radio’s Dead Dog Café, Guelph); Trent Maclellan (comedian, current cast member of This Hour Has 22 Minutes, Toronto); Scott Montgomery (actor, producer and writer, Winnipeg), Christian Murray (actor and writer, Halifax), and Mieko Ouchi (award-winning actor, director and playwright, Edmonton).
Headlined by players representing Canada’s broad cultural mosaic, the live performance will be accompanied by a soundscape and multi-media stage design by award-winning designer Félix Fradet-Faguy and Normal Studio of Montreal.
Beginning in Labrador in early September 2017, Canada, It’s Complicated will tour the nation for approximately 10 weeks, visiting communities, holding workshops, and staging performances as it travels from sea to sea to sea.
